Summary
This Masterclass focuses on computer security, privacy and cryptography and their touchpoints to legislation. Sessions include introduction to computer security, privacy and cryptography techniques, economics, and practical considerations. A special session will focus on the relation of computer security to artificial intelligence.
Instructor
Florian Kerschbaum is an associate professor in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo (since 2017) and Director of the Waterloo Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute (since 2018). He holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (2010) and a master’s degree from Purdue University (2001).
Florian is an ACM Distinguished Scientist (2019) and a winner of the Outstanding Young Computer Science Researcher Award from CS-Can/Info-Can (2019). He is interested in data security and privacy in data management, machine learning, and blockchains. Florian extends real world systems with cryptographic security mechanisms to achieve (some) provable security guarantees. His work has been applied to products for databases, supply chain management and RFID tracking.
Format
The masterclass format is a concise summary of 4-5 sessions delivered over a 3-hour period. Upon completion of the masterclass learning objectives, participants will receive a BEI certificate.
