Summary
The Canadian Government issued a revamped defence policy, “Our North, Strong and Free,” in April 2024. It promised to reorient Canada defence to protect Canada’s Arctic and to contribute to NATO collective security. The defence policy has been given new urgency by policies and pronouncements stemming from the Trump administration. We will examine the foundations of the new policy, the key promises made, the threat environment it now responds to, and the challenges ahead.
This masterclass is offered as part of the National Security Masterclass Series 2025/1.
