Summary
Canada’s new defence policy, issued in April 2024, promises to reorient Canada defence to protect Canada’s Arctic and to contribute to NATO collective security. We will examine the foundations of the new policy, the key promises made, the threat environment it responds to, and the challenges ahead.

Instructor
Wesley Wark is an expert on national security and intelligence issues, in both a Canadian and international context.
He is a fellow of the Balsillie School of International Affairs, a professor emeritus at the University of Toronto/Munk School of Global Affairs, and a senior fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation, in Waterloo, where he co-directed a major project on Canadian National Security Strategy.
