Summary

CIGI Building Since his inauguration in January 2025, US President Donald Trump has taken steps to proclaim and implement an America First strategy, has made annexationist threats, including against Canada, and has invoked a new version of the 19th century doctrine of Manifest Destiny. These measures have serious implications for our bilateral alliance relationship with the US, and for our key multilateral engagements through NATO and the Five Eyes. This masterclass will explore the nature of Trumpian doctrine and examine its impacts on Canada.

This masterclass is offered as part of the National Security Masterclass Series 2025/1.
